Beautiful Imposter Playlist

TODAY, WE'RE SHOOTING THE BREEZE
AND BLOG HOPPING
WITH
ALEX SHIPPE
AND HIS DEBUT HIT,
"BEAUTIFUL IMPOSTER"

I was so excited when Alex decided to have a Blog Tour for "Beautiful Imposter".  Of course, I jumped at the chance to have him here again to promote his work.  If you haven't met him yet, you should check out my interview with him on Wednesday on our CRASH THE PARTY blog site! It was amazing getting to know more about the man...husband, dad, sci-fi geek and what has made him the man he is today. A truly amazing story.
I learned from chatting with Alex that he is a very "hands on" dad who stays at home with his kiddos and taxis them around. I'd love to see him on the new "Modern Dads" series. LOL! Being such a busy bee and not being able to be at his computer as often as most of us, he is constantly using a voice recorder for his notes and ideas. What a multi-tasker he is! He has the character's, Jessica and Byron's, whole relationship in voice notes. Incredible! You simply must read this!

Hardworking, devoted wife Jessica races home from her hectic corporate schedule to spend an unexpected take-five the boss gave her with none other than her loving husband Byron. But the gut-wrenching scene she finds on the bedroom floor knocks the wind out of her. Betrayed, angry, wounded, it’s all she can do not to drag Byron to the nearest lawyer and demand divorce. As the evening unfolds Jessica opens her heart to the man she thought she once knew, and takes a chance on love. Can they work through his infidelity? And if so, what will it take for her to forgive him? Time, it is said, can heal all wounds. Can it really . . . heal all wounds?

Today, Alex has given me access to some of his inspiration for the turns of events in this story.  A beautiful playlist of songs that really gives you a feel for the emotions that run deep with Jessica, Byron and also Jessica's boss, David.  Hearing these gives you an idea of how they felt in that moment.  Alex has so graciously given me the entire list of music videos for your pleasure. If you've read "Beautiful Imposter", you will understand the true meaning of the songs and why they fit so snuggly with this incredible read.

THE PLAYLIST:

Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" was the first song I played.

This is the song that was playing in Jessica's car on the drive home to spend the afternoon window with Byron.

Robyn: Show Me Love

I am thankful to all the reviewers who have taken the time to read and critique Beautiful Imposter. One of the things I hear about most is the love that exists between Jessica and Byron. The question I am asked most: Is there more?

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect with this story. The trouble with short stories is that readers can be picky. So, rather than tell a simple story I went for something with layers. Something that could be re-read, for enjoyment and discovering new layers that may not have been seen before.

Jessica and Byron truly love each other. I knew that from the beginning. I'm developing that story.

This song is my inspiration.

Sixpence None the Richer: Kiss Me

The moment Jessica walks into the bedroom and finds Byron cheating on her is the moment I knew this story was going to push me WAAAYYYY out of my comfort zone. But, rather than fear that conflict, I stopped and asked myself, if two people who really and truly love each other (remember, I have voice notes about their relationship) then Jessica couldn't just leave. If she really ever did love him then she would try to forgive him. Nevertheless, the pain of his infidelity was too much for her.

This song served as some of the inspiration. Byron tried to take the blame away from her.

Akon: Sorry, Blame It On Me

This is the song I was listening to when I was writing Jessica as she slapped Byron across the face and then proceeded to listen to him defend himself.

Joy Enriques: How Can I Not Love You?

I was listening to this song as I wrote the scene in which Jessica recalls her trip to Chicago for Restaurant Week and then throws the bottle of wine across the room.

* * * Caution, Alanis bares all. * * *
Alanis Morissette: Thank You

This is David's theme. Not too hard to figure out why this was the source of the inspiration for writing his scene with Jessica.

James Blunt: You're Beautiful

I played this song while writing the last scene of the story.

Christina Perry: Arms

Hero is the song that inspired me when I was thinking about David's motivations to helping Jessica. The line . . . "Let me be your hero," sums up his motivation. He's been there. He knows what's it's like to feel betrayed. It's a plea but it's also an olive branch.

Enrique Iglesias: Hero

Throughout this journey there has been one person who has been my greatest cheerleader, my best friend, my soul mate, Mrs. Shippe.

In honor or her, a song. Because we have this kind of love.

Alicia Keys: No One

Now that’s what I call a playlist!!

I hope you took the time to listen to each one.  If not, it will always be here in the archives and you can come back to enjoy them anytime!  Leave Alex a comment and tell him how you felt about his choice of music.  I know I’m loving it!

Thank you Alex for allowing me to share these beautiful songs with all of my wonderful peeps.  And, thank you for the last song in honor of your lovely wife.  She is one lucky lady!

Well, my naughty little word addicts…it’s time to close.
